Revitalize and rejuvenate your body and mind with Thai massage! Performed on a mat on the floor, you remain clothed (wear loose pants and tops or we can provide them for you) while your massage therapist uses a unique combination of stretching, compression, finger pressure, and guided yoga poses to loosen tight muscles, stimulate circulation, relieve joint pain and stiffness, and balance your energy. You will leave feeling relaxed and invigorated.
Thai massage is based on releasing blockages along ten energy pathways called sen, which are similar to the meridians of traditional Chinese medicine. The technique incorporates kneading of muscles, manipulation of joints, and deep pressure applied to specific points in order to balance and stimulate the energy pathways.
History of Thai Massage
It is believed that Thai massage was developed by an Indian physician named Shivago Kumar Bhucca, a contemporary of the Buddha, to give monks and nuns the flexibility to sit for long hours in meditation. Since, massage has become an integral part of Thai medicine, health, and everyday life. Massage is considered such a crucial aspect of medical treatment in Thailand that until the early 20th century, the Thai Department of Health included an official massage division.
